I'm a real 'Geek' now and I love Bitcoins

I had heard the term Bitcoin used fairly regularly but it is only recently that I have taken the time to learn a little bit more about it and it fascinates me. A peer to peer payment system that doesn't involve the powers that be - who doesn't lke the sound of that?

What is a Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a peer to peer payment system introduced in 2009 by software developer Satoshi Nakamoto. All payments are recorded on a public ledger in its own unit of currency - the Bitcoin. Payments work peer-to-peer without a central repository or single administrator. This has led to it being called a decentralized virtual currency. Although its status as a currency is often disputed, media reports often refer to bitcoin as a cryptocurrency or digital currency. I like the term cryptocurrency - it awakens all sorts of geekish feelings in me.

My Bitcoin Wallet

So I now have a Bitcoin wallet and it was looking pretty empty and just as I was considering buying some bitcoin or parts of one to play around with the system I discovered Bitcoin Faucets that give bitcoin away for free. Yes I know you have probably just rolled your eyes heavenwards thinking no-one gives away free money. Well that's what I though as well before doing some research and then dipping my toes and trying a few out.

Bitcoin Faucet websites exist from advertising revenue and they pay you in Bitcoin for visiting them and basically claiming them, they get paid for the adverts displayed on the page you visit. Now the amount of Bitcoin that you are given is very, very small, it is a unit of Bitcoin called a Satoshi (the designers name) but they do soon add up. I keep a couple of the sites open as tabs on my browser and regularly visit each to claim the free Bitcoin and it isn't a scam as I have transfered the issued Bitcoin into my own wallet so I now have something to play with - yay for me. So here are some links to four of them Faucets I use:

FreeBitcoin - This is my favourite by far, you can play games with the Satoshi you get and it pays out well. You can claim every hour.

BitcoinZebra - This one is a bit weird you can claim every hour for feeding a zebra LOL.

Bitcoinker - This one just gives you Satoshi but every fifteen minutes instead of every hour.

BonusBitcoin - This one pays out well and is another fifteen minute claim.

Now I'm off to find a sex toy shop that takes Bitcoin ;-)
