Each channel needs two electrode surfaces

It can often be confusing to newcomers to electrostimulation as to how we wire ourselves up.

Always remember the no stimming above the waistline rule.

Each channel needs to electrodes. The first gets the current from your e-stim control box into your body. This current then travels through the body, stimulating nerve endings and muscles before coming out of your body through a second electrode. It then goes back to the control box, forming a complete circuit.

So we need two electrodes to form a circuit. There are two main types of electrode, and these are Monopole and Bipolar electrodes:

Monopole Electrodes just have one contact surface, and one plug is attached to it. You will need two monopole electrodes to make a circuit. A regular cock loop is a perfect example of this; they are sold in pairs as you need two to complete a circuit.

Bipolar Electrodes have two plugs attached to them because they have two contact surfaces often separated by something that is an insulator. Lots of insertable electrodes, such as the Flange or Moaner, are good examples of a bipolar electrode. You plug both plugs from one channels cable into a bipolar electrode, and as it has two surfaces, it basically does the job of two monopole electrodes.

Basically any setup that sends electrical current through it

A common electrode set up for prostate milking is to use a cock loop or pad style electrode on or near the glans of the penis. The other electrode can be an insertable electrode, positioned so that it's against your prostate.

Some people use bi-polar butt plug electrodes for this but only attach the cable to the top electrode face, so it sits near the prostate. Imagine drawing a line between the two electrodes, you want that line to go through the prostate.

Any combination of electrode positions that send the current along that line will do the trick. A cock loop and insertable electrode has the added benefit of stimulating the dorsal nerve along the top of the penis too which you will feel in your glans.

For more information about the nerves in that area you can check out my Electrosex Penis Play Guide For Hands Free Orgasms.

Cock loops can be used in lots of ways

Check out this advice article - Electrosex And E-stim Electrode Position Guide

Cock loops are very versatile and there are lots of ways to use them. The best way though is to insulate the top of the one around the base of your penis and put that loop around your cock and balls. This allows you to effectively stimulate both the Dorsal and Perineal nerves to best effect.

Yes they do

Cnductive rubber is infused with carbon powder or strands and bending and stretching cuases the bonds and connections betweent hem to break down over time. This has the effect of increasing the resistance of the conductive rubber and makes them feel less intense.

Top Tip: You can mitigate this problem by inserting solid copper wire inside your conductive rubber loops. This will help the current reach everywhere ignoring the resistance of old conductive rubber. It can also help to prevent hot spots caused by old conductive rubber loops breaking down. Normal household wiring is perfect for this, just strip off the plastic insulating coating and slide it into the cock loop.

No, the adhesive used on them does the job of conductive lube

We use conductive lube to ensure a good electrical contact between our skin and an electrode. The conductive adhesive on self-adhesive type monopole electrodes does this job exceptionally well. In fact, if you do use an electro lube with this type of pads, they won't stick.

Old pads that have lost their stickiness can be coated with some electro lube though, but you will need to use a strap or bandage to keep them in place then. But as these electrodes are so cheap, most people re-use them until they lose their stickiness and then throw them away.

A sensation generated by certain electrode positions

In a nutshell, Ghost Fucking is a term given to the sensation generated by certain electrode combinations when enjoying an e-stim session. It feels like you are being fucked and can cause an insertable bi-polar electrode to feel like it is moving inside you, hence the term.

I find that end to end bipolar electrodes work best for me and this causes my vagina to tighten in time with the elctrical pulses causing the electrode to move inside me. Another good electrode position is one on each buttock right at the base when it meets the top of your legs. This causes the glutimus maximus muscle group to contract and release and this can feel like a good fucking too.

A great electrode for this sensation for me is the Flange from E-Stim Systems, its relatively small diameter means it actually moves when my muscles contract and this feels amazing.

Yes with some caveats

Placing one electrode over the cock cage will turn that into an electrode. You may get hotspots if not enough of the cage is in contact with your skin, start with a low power setting and gradually increase. Use plenty of conductive lube between the metalwork and your skin.

You cannot attach both cables from one channel to the cock cage as that will just short the electrodes out and possibly damage your control box.

Use a second pad electrode in your bum crack or just past your anus. A metal butt plug can also be used but make sure that none of the metalwork of the cock cage is anywhere near it as it may short circuit. One way to prevent that could be wrapping insulating tape around half of the butt plugs flanged base and orientate it towards your metal cock cage.

Check out my E-Stim Electrode Placement Guide for some ideas of where you can attach the second electrode.

If you max out your 2B on the high channel setting consider getting a mains power adaptor (double insulated) as that will give you 30% more power.

Experiment and have fun but be careful about shorting out channels. Oh, and hope your Mistress doesn't find out you have been getting off while caged - good luck.

With the right equipment you can

If you are wearing latex or rubber gloves and use a dental dam it is safe you perform oral sex on your female partner when stimming with pad electrodes

You need to make sure that you don't close the circuit which is why gloves are a must and the dental dam is there to ensure that your face and tongue do not get stimmed.

These simple precautions help to remove any risks.

I certainly can

Check out my review of the Flange Electrode from E-Stim Systems, it is a fantastic first time insertable. It generates lots of sensations and can be used by anby control box but you will need to have a cable that ends in 4mm plugs.

I love large electrodes but the Flange is one that I keep coming back to as it is just so good.

You can get the Flange™ from E-stim Sytems as well as from reputable online sex toy shops.

Pure metals are best

Alloys of metals (except for Stainless Steel) shouldn't be used for stimming; these are the best options for base metals available:

  • Aluminium
  • Stainless Steel
  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Copper
  • Tin

Avoid combinations of these metals such as Bronze or Brass as there is a real risk of metals being transferred into your body through the electrolysis action causing molecular migration.

Galvanised steel and other metals should be considered unsafe for stimming.

Graphite is used in conductive rubber, and it is an excellent non-metal conductor.

Check out my Electrode Reviews.

It is down to personal preference

I prefer an end to end electrode rather than side by side but others will argue the point with me on that one.

With an end to end electrode like the Flange, for instance, the current flows in a doughnut patterns radially between the two electrode faces. This area that the current flows through is where all of the muscles and nerve endings you want to stimulate are located.

Not really

The larger the electrode the larger the surface area in contact with your body. This spreads out the flow of electrons and makes the sensations feel weaker. In order to feel intense stimulation with larger electrodes you will need to crank up the power.

Really large electrodes require a powerful control box like the E-Stim Systems 2B as by using a mains power adaptor on the high power setting you can increase the output by 30%.

So, as a general rule, the smaller the electrode the more intense the sensations.

Check out my DIY Clitrode

There aren't too many commercial clitoral electrodes around and I haven't tried any of the commercial ones so I can't comment on them.

I have however made my own very quickly and cheaply. You can find the full instructions on my DIY Clitrode Article.

It is very effective and you can make it as a monopole, bipolar or even tripolar. Have fun.

You can trim them

Trimming a pad electrode is a common way of increasing the sensations that they deliver. This happens because when you cut them down their surface area decreases so the current flows through less skin area and this increases the sensation that they provide.

You can trim them down but try not to go smaller than about 3/4" or 19mm square otherwise it could be too intense.

It can be fun working out which one is the common

It is very common for the colours red, black and blue to be used in which case if yours is those colours then the black is probably common.

Image showing a common cable connection for a Tri-phase cable
An image showing a common cable connection for a tri-phase cable

The common will generally give the most stimulation as current from both channels is going through it so in use, it is pretty easy to find out which it is.

Connect the common cable to where you want the most stimulation. Purists say you should place it in the middle of the three electrodes, but you can do what you want. Experiment and find out what works best for you.

There could be a number of problems

You should use lots of conductive electrogel or lube with cock rings as this will increase the contact area and help to reduce hot spots. If your conductive rubber cock rings are old, it could be that they are not as efficient as they used to be. Stretching and age affect the conductivity of this style of electrodes.

An excellent way to give them a new lease of life is to just slip a length of wire or solder into the conductive rubber loop leaving enough room for your plug. This will increase its conductivity along its length and revitalise it.

If you still have hotspots consider doubling up the cock loop by twisting it, this will double the skin contact area and prevent hot spots from developing as long as you use conductive electrogel or lube with it.
