Personal Safety And Privacy

Nov 19, 2017

Your safety and privacy are primary concerns

This subject is so important that it deserves its own article and I hope that this opens your eyes and also answers any questions or doubts that you have about running a sex blog. As with most things sex related discretion is key. Especially in this day and age where people are all too keen and quick to judge others. It's therefore of tantamount importance that you understand the concerns and risks involved whilst also knowing how to keep yourself safe whilst preserving your privacy.

When you blog, your opinions and life are open to view by all and sundry. You need to balance the need to be genuine and authentic with the need for your own personal safety and privacy, it's a very thin line to tread. Too much secrecy can make it hard to effectively blog and make it easy to slip up, whilst being too open can lead to problems in real life. To that end you need to seriously sit down and decide how open or private you really want to be.

Personal privacy

When you decide to run a sex blog one of the biggest decisions that you need to make is how much privacy to you want to preserve. Are you happy to reveal your face or real name onlin. Do you want to blog under a pseudonym and avatar as I do. By doing my blog this way, I can preserve my real name and what I look like. Remember, once a picture is on the internet it will always be on the internet. It makes it easier to keep my kinks from friends and family and that's the way I like it so consider doing it yourself before you opt to expose yourself to the internet limelight.

If you opt to blog anonymously then consider using a completely unique moniker or handle that you don't use elsewhere. It is all to easy to link different accounts together online to build up a profile on someone if you don't. If you also blog anonymously then speak to anyone who knows about your blog about the dangers of re-posting your work on their social networks as again it can be used for profiling who you are.

Never put any readily identifiable personal information online and this includes the following:

  • Social Security or Identification Numbers.
  • Home or work address.
  • Birth date or place.
  • Mother’s maiden name.
  • Passwords of any sort.
  • Bank account numbers, or anything that you use as password reminders or the answer to security questions.
  • Most bloggers prefer to keep phone numbers private as well. Don’t reveal this information about other people either.

If you receive products to review then consider getting a PO Box in order to be able to discreetly receive deliveries without having to discolse your address but bear in mind that most couriers won't drop off packages to a PO Box as they will require a signature upon delivery.

Domain privacy

Anyone can do a WHOIS search to find the owner of any domain name unless that person has paid for an added level of privacy. When you register your Domain Name make sure that you pay for the added security of WHOIS privacy as without it anyone could find out your real name and even your address and just turn up at your door.
